about

In my project "Chordeograph" I am developing techniques for generating sounds based on archaic means: strings played with "sliders" made of metal, wood and glass. From my sound and perception research two instruments evolved. Up to 37 strings (Chordeograph 2) respectively 43 strings (Chordeograph 1) are stimulated at the same time. Different positions of the sliders respectively directions, angles and speeds transcend the soundspectrum and application possibilities of previous known string instruments. On the basis of graphical scores I develop precise and repeatable playing procedures. Each movement is reflected in the sound in some variation ranging from minimal to dramatic.

My chordeograph work evolved from the vision to create a continuous variability of sound through strings: transforming from single tone over pulsating beats to sounds of orchestral dimensions. The foreordained gives way to unforeseen moments of sound.
